Top Guns - WEEK 12 TOP GUNS – 5 QB PERFORMANCES TO NOTE

Written By:

Some names from the ranks of the NFL’s “banished” make the list this time around. Also, we cheated a bit this week and added a sixth QB to the list, because Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady’s weekly presence has monopolized this space thus far. A look at some of this week’s notable Quarterback performances:

Vince Young - Philadelphia

Yes, it was only one game and yes, the Eagles lost, but Young played well enough for the Eagles to expect to win vs. the Patriots. Still showing some of the rust of inactivity, Young did make a handful of bad throws, but he was also the victim of several dropped passes. Despite this, he put the Eagles in scoring position repeatedly and passed for a career-high 400 yards.

Drew Brees - New Orleans

With due respect to Aaron Rodgers, Brees has looked as comfortable and in-control as any Quarterback in the NFL this year – and the Saints look more unbeatable at home with each passing week. Brees accounted for a total of 5 TDs, and distributed the ball nicely vs. the Giants, with seven different Saints catching multiple passes. The Saints’ Quarterback is also well on his way to significantly improving (reducing) the number of INTs he threw in 2010.

Andy Dalton - Cincinnati

Dalton helped the Bengals keep pace in the AFC North, while demonstrating poise on some key plays vs. Cleveland’s pressure. He has set a franchise record for rookie Quarterbacks with 16 TD passes on Sunday, and in process proved again that he is capable of leading his team while playing from behind.

Rex Grossman - Washington

Grossman’s performance was not one for the ages, as he threw 2 INTs and made a couple of other poor throws, but winning on the road in the NFL counts for a lot, as it should. Factoring in the Redskin QB’s overall output – 9 yards per pass attempt and 2 TDs – along with an impressive 4th quarter comeback, Grossman deserves credit for a job well done.

Carson Palmer - Oakland

Playing against a tough Bears’ run defense, Palmer was forced to lead the Raiders via the air, and he did so. Making enough throws to consistently place Oakland in scoring position – and despite throwing no TD passes – Palmer allowed Oakland’s special teams to kick six field goals. With his return to the NFL barely a month old, Palmer looks poised to take the Raiders’ to the playoffs.

Aaron Rodgers - Green Bay

Rodgers withstood intense Lions pressure – and numerous late hits – and delivered a performance that made the difference in a divisional road win vs. Detroit. Those waiting for Rodgers’ avoidance of bad decisions and poor ball placement to come to an end will have to wait at least another week, as the Green Bay QB threw two more TDs and had no INTs.
